Why was Practical Good created?
For the most part, I've been very fortunate to have a very comfortable life. However, I've also had many challenges. In the past I never took care of my physical health, causing my weight to balloon to 298 pounds (135 kilograms). I've had jobs that were increasingly affecting my mental health. I often daydreamed of doing more like creating my own business or having the ability to write more.
I started looking for ways to tackle all those challenges as they happened, and I got quickly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information out there. The Internet is a double-edged sword - there's more information available than ever before, but it's increasingly difficult to take action with so much at your fingertips. I was always frustrated with my lack of progress.
I've spent the last ten years reading self-help books, taking online courses, talking with people, and trying out seemingly every possible technique I learned along the way. As expected, a lot of what I tried out for myself didn't work well. But I noticed that the things that worked best were the smallest and easiest things to do.
That's when I realized that we often tend to discard what seems simple in favor of massive actions that are much more difficult even to get started. The principal strength of simplicity is that it's easier to start, but more importantly, it's easier to stick with it over the long haul. Consistency is key to long-lasting change.
You have an enormous capacity to add to or change your life in any way you want. I want to help you by sharing the things that I know can unlock your abilities and empower you to reach greater heights in your life. I hope that I can be part of your journey, whatever it is.

My name is Dennis Martinez. I'm a software engineer currently living in Osaka, Japan. Before moving to Japan, I spent my entire life in the United States. I was born in Chicago and raised in Puerto Rico where I lived for nearly 20 years. I also lived for a few years in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area.
I love spending time with my wife and exploring the city of Osaka. There's always something new and interesting to discover. I also thoroughly enjoy coming up with thoughts and ideas that can help the readers of Practical Good as much as I can.
